Mater Dei Catholic Primary School was first opened in 1990. Since that time, it has built up a fine reputation as a strong learning community, featuring a vibrant partnership between parents, clergy and the staff of the school, in developing each child to their full potential. Many would agree that our school has an idyllic location on spacious grounds, providing an aesthetic environment conducive to learning.
The school has an enrolment of over 340 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and is one of two primary schools in the Sacred Heart Parish. Our school had been a single stream school from it’s inception until 2003. In 2004, because of the high volume of applications for Kindergarten placement, the school made the decision to undertake a double intake of Kindergarten children. In 2010, the school became double stream throughout.
As a Catholic school, we focus on developing a positive school culture reflecting gospel values. Catholic beliefs are taught and our faith is experienced, witnessed and shared so that we can assist all children in their faith journey. To help achieve this, we plan and implement a comprehensive Religious Education program encompassing varied experiences of prayer celebration and liturgy. Our school is an integral part of the Sacred Heart Parish, Kooringal and we work very closely with Parish Priest, Father Rafter. The school has a special devotion to Mary, Mother of God, our School Patron.
Whilst learning about, and living our faith are paramount to us, we also respect other faith traditions. We aim to provide a physical and social setting that is safe, well organised and caring. Values of respect, tolerance and inclusion are promoted throughout the school and all members of our school community are valued and treated with dignity and respect.
We are fortunate to have within our school a group of very dedicated staff who display a commitment to the on-going professional learning that will assist them in meeting the needs of students with different ability levels and learning styles. Formal and informal reporting and communication with parents is seen as a priority in forming a partnership with parents to enhance each child’s development. High expectations are set for student learning, and we encourage children to accept responsibility for their own learning through appropriate and sensitive teaching programs.
Parental involvement and support is one of the great attributes of our school. Parents have high levels of involvement in our school, and are encouraged to take an active role in discussing, monitoring and supporting their children’s learning. It is always wonderful to see so many parents taking a part in school activities.
We trust that your family find here at Mater Dei, a welcoming and friendly community supporting you in the Catholic education of your children.
